PENINSULA YOUTH SAILING FOUNDATION NAMED OFFICIAL WASZP HUB
The US WASZP Class is proud to announce Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation (PYSF) as an official WASZP HUB for the 2026 season.
Based in Redwood City, PYSF has built one of Northern California’s most respected youth sailing programs. With this step, they are doing something bigger than adding a new boat. They are bringing structured, sustainable dinghy foiling to California in a way that is designed to last.
And that is exactly what the HUB system is built for.
Why the HUB Model Works
In many high-performance classes, growth follows a familiar pattern. A few elite sailors rise quickly, travel expands, costs increase, and local participation thins out. When momentum slows, fleets shrink just as fast as they grew.
The WASZP HUB model was designed to avoid that cycle.
Instead of pulling resources upward, the system strengthens the base first. HUBs focus on repeatable local programming, coach development, and accessible entry points for both junior and adult sailors. Boats stay active. Coaches stay engaged. New sailors enter every season. More experienced racers continue to sharpen their skills at home.
From that strong local foundation, real opportunity opens.
Sailors who want to compete regionally, nationally, or internationally can do so through an integrated pathway. But advancement does not hollow out the fleet. It reinforces it. Success at the top feeds back into strong local programs.
Strong HUBs. Large fleets. Clear progression. That alignment is why the model works.
Why PYSF Is the Right Fit
Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation already operates with this mindset.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, PYSF has long prioritized access, progression, and long-term athlete development. Their programs introduce new sailors to the sport in a safe, structured way, while also supporting competitive travel teams and advanced coaching.
The protected waters of Redwood City provide an ideal environment for learning to foil. Just outside lies the full challenge of San Francisco Bay, offering a natural progression for sailors as confidence and skill grow.

Under Executive Director John Vandemoer, PYSF brings deep experience in building high-performance programs that remain grounded in strong fundamentals. Vandemoer’s background leading collegiate programs at Stanford and the U.S. Naval Academy reflects a philosophy centered on structure, accountability, and sustainable development.
The WASZP HUB partnership aligns directly with that approach.
This is not about creating an isolated elite squad. It is about layering dinghy foiling into an already thriving youth ecosystem, activating new sailors while providing a clear competitive pathway for those ready to push further.
Bringing Structured Foiling to California
The 2026 schedule marks the beginning of that effort:
April 10th – 12th (Large Activation Event)
May 23rd – 24th (Training Event)
May 30th – 31st (Training Event)
August 7th – 9th (Training Event)
August 14th – 16th (Training Event)
These sessions will focus on safe flight fundamentals, boat handling, race starts, and performance progression. Just as importantly, they are part of a repeatable structure designed to grow year after year.
Around these dates, WASZP activity will continue each week with access to boats and coaching.

For new sailors, this is an accessible entry point into foiling.
For maturing racers, it is a platform to refine skills within a national and international class.
For California sailing, it represents a thoughtful expansion into the future of singlehanded racing.
A Long-Term Vision
The addition of Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation as a WASZP HUB strengthens the West Coast network and reflects a shared belief: sustainable growth begins locally.
By prioritizing strong club programs, developing coaches, and creating visible pathways for sailors at every stage, PYSF is helping shape what dinghy foiling in California can become over the next decade.

Warm, disciplined, and forward-looking.
