WASZP Class Launches Youth Development Team

The North American WASZP Class Youth Development Team will officially launch this May, creating a new entry point for young sailors looking to begin fleet racing in the WASZP and develop within the rapidly growing Dinghy Foiling pathway.

The Youth Development Team is designed as a Class organized program focused on introducing sailors to dinghy foiling and fleet racing in a supportive and structured environment while preparing athletes for future progression into the North American Race Team and year round regional, national, and international competition.

The program will be supported through a collaborative coaching effort between WeCANFoil, USFoil and America One Racing, with overall organization and athlete support coordinated by volunteers from the North American WASZP Class.

One of the primary goals of the program is to reduce barriers for families entering Dinghy Foiling. The Class will assist sailors and parents with connecting to similarly aged families at host clubs, locating housing opportunities, arranging charter boats and shipping logistics, and helping solve the many practical challenges that can make travel and participation difficult for new competitors.

Beginning in May, the Team will hold monthly online meetings focused on athlete development, goal setting, training opportunities, regatta preparation, and upcoming Class events throughout North America. These meetings are intended to create year round connection between sailors, coaches, and families while helping athletes steadily progress through the pathway.

The initial summer schedule for the Youth Development Team will include participation opportunities surrounding the Canadian Championships, North American Championships, the WASZP Race Teams Summer Camp, and the WASZP Americas 2026 development pathway activities.

The program is open to any sailor interested in learning to race the WASZP and becoming part of the North American Dinghy Foiling community. Sailors and families interested in joining the Youth Development Team are encouraged to contact the Class to register and receive additional information about the Team structure, coaching support, and upcoming informational meetings.

The goal is simple: Keep young sailors racing, keep them developing, and create a welcoming pathway into the future of competitive sailing.
