USFoil is committed to creating a clear, connected pathway for every sailor — from their first flight to the international stage. Through structured coaching, performance tracking, and nationwide support, our teams provide the environment, equipment, and mentorship needed for sailors to grow, compete, and succeed.
The USFoil Youth Development Team is where the journey begins. Designed for sailors as young as ten years old, this program introduces foiling in a safe, structured, and inspiring environment. Using smaller-rig WASZP setups and Wing Foiling systems, young sailors learn the fundamentals of flight, handling, and control while building confidence and independence on the water.
Coaching emphasizes fun, teamwork, and progression — transforming new sailors into capable foilers ready to take on racing challenges. Youth Development Teams train locally and regionally, supported by USFoil Hubs, coaches and curriculum, ensuring consistent instruction across all programs. These young athletes also gain early exposure to national clinics and demonstration events, giving them a sense of community and belonging within the broader foiling network.
USFoil provides access to boats, coaching materials, and ongoing mentorship to help clubs, schools, and families develop and sustain their youth programs. The goal: to make foiling accessible, enjoyable, and a natural step in every young sailor’s progression.
The National Race Teams are organized by and belong to the WASZP Class, with USFoil providing coaching support, development resources, and coordination. These teams bring together the most talented and committed foiling sailors from across the country for advanced coaching, structured competition, and leadership development. This program bridges the gap between youth and professional sailing — offering access to world-class training environments, high-level coaching, and data-driven performance analysis.
Athletes receive targeted support across all aspects of racing: tactical decision-making, foiling technique, equipment setup, fitness, and mental preparation. Regular training camps and regional meetups allow sailors to train together and benchmark performance. Members of the Teams are also introduced to industry partners, technical experts, and professional mentors who help them chart pathways into Olympic and professional sailing.
USFoil works closely with the U.S. WASZP Class to provide access to national and international regattas, ensuring that every Team sailor has the chance to test their skills on the biggest stages. This team is the stepping stone to the Podium Team — where the best young sailors evolve into elite-level competitors.
The Podium Team — also organized by and belonging to the U.S. WASZP Class — represents the pinnacle of WASZP and foiling performance in North America. USFoil supports the Podium Team through advanced coaching resources, technical guidance, and international competition planning. These sailors are selected from the Team ranks and include established high-level competitors who demonstrate excellence, consistency, and dedication to the sport.
Podium Team athletes receive personalized coaching, technical support, and international regatta preparation, often training alongside professional and Olympic-caliber coaches. The focus is on fine-tuning performance — optimizing technique, data analysis, equipment tuning, and race strategy to compete against the world’s best.
Beyond results, Podium Team members serve as ambassadors for the sport, mentoring younger sailors and representing USFoil and the Class at major international events. The Podium Team embodies the ultimate goal of the USFoil pathway: to elevate American sailors to the highest level of global foiling competition while fostering a community of excellence, humility, and leadership.
Together, these three teams create a cohesive national system where sailors can learn, train, and race through every stage of their journey — all within a consistent framework of coaching, safety, and opportunity. From first flights to the world stage, USFoil ensures that every sailor has the guidance, tools, and community they need to succeed.
